A pair of Newhall pate-sur-pate plates, early 19th century, centrally painted with fruits, within a gilt highlighted cobalt ground cavetto further surrounded by a classical white-slip border against a lavender ground, unmarked, 21.5cm diameter, with an English porcelain dish, decorated in the Newhall manner, early 19th century, 21cm wide, a Vienna porcelain botanical specimen dish, 25cm wide, and a pair of Spode Chelsea Bird pattern cabinet plates, 23.5cm wide (6) (at fault)

More Information

One Newhall pate-sur-pate plate shows historic hairline cracks to the well. The other shows a rivet repair to the rim and a more recent full thickness crack extending approximately 9cm around the edge of the well and then 5cm to the rim. Both show wear and scratching to the gilt highlights and central fruit motifs (extensive in places), and fine surface crazing throughout.

The Newhall manner plate shows fine surface crazing and surface wear.

The Vienna plate shows firing pits and frits, surface wear and rubbing to the gilt highlights.

The two Spode plates show surface wear, rubbing to the gilt highlights and label residue.
