Framed oil painting on canvas of Lieutenant colonel William Calderwood (1745-87) by George Romney (1734-1802)
-William was the son of famous diarist Margaret Calderwood (1715-74) & Thomas Calderwood (d.1773)
-he became Lt-Col with the 1st horse guards in the post of silver stick
-married Anne Baineaves in 1780 (daughter of Col John Baineaves of Cairnbadie)
-died in 1787 in Lausanne, Switzerland where a monument was erected in the cathedral to his memory
-size 75cm x 88½cm (29½"x35")

Good condition - has been relined. Some old restoration.
Some 'crocodiling' to the surface and period frame in good condition with some repairs to the back
