A PAIR OF LIMOGES ENAMEL PANELS by Pierre Reymond (1513-1584), initialled and dated 'PR' 1559, one depicting a Bishop with a crozier, domed hat and a rich red cape draped around him; the other depicting a soldier in a blue tunic, sword to his waist and spear resting against him. The two panels of the same size were most likely part of a triptych and stood either side of a large central panel, possibly contained within a church altar, 15.5 x 4cm. Literature: for similar examples see the collection of the chapel at Château d'Écouen, where Anne de Montmorency commissioned Pierre Reymond to create the Altar pieces which remain in situ today.
