Badge. 49th (The Princess Charlotte of Wales’s or Hertfordshire) Regiment of Foot Victorian Officer’s shoulder belt plate circa 1843-55. Fine scarce example by TATHAM, LONDON with Fleur de Lis logo. Seeded gilt rectangular plate, with raised burnished edges, mounted with crowned circlet PRINCESS CHARLOTTE OF WALES' resting in laurel sprays entwined with battle honours over CHINA scroll and Dragon. Burnished centre with HERTFORDSHIRE over seeded 49 resting on a Union sprays. Well worn leather liner. Two hooks and two studs VGC Under Cardwell’s reforms became 1st Bn. Berkshire Regiment 1.7.1881
