A Great War D.S.O. and M.C. group of five to Aubrey Wentworth Harrison Watson (1892-1928) of the King’s Royal Rifle Corps: the D.S.O. (June 1919); the Military Cross (1918 NYH); 1914-15 Star (LIEUT. A.W.H. WATSON K. R. RIF. C.); British War and Victory Medals (CAPT. A.W.H. WATSON) with mentioned in despatches oak leaf clasp. Aubrey Watson was the son of North American parents, Harrison Watson and Ruth Appleton Blake. Educated at Winchester College and Cambridge University, he was commissioned as a temporary lieutenant on September 9 1914 and promoted temporary captain in December 1916. Mentioned in despatches in January 1917 he was awarded the Military Cross a year later, the Distinguished Service Order in June 1919 and mentioned in despatches in the following month. The still existing Harrison Watson Scholarship was established in his memory at Canada’s McGill University in 1953.
