A signed limited edition of 'Comète Line' (Comet Line) written in French by Cécile Jouan. Although not signed by the author, this edition features the signature and personal inscription of Arnold Deppé, a key figure in the legendary Comet Line escape network. The inscription reads: "To my dear friend Stanley, affectionately, Arnold."
Arnold Deppé played a crucial role in the Comet Line, an underground network that assisted Allied soldiers in escaping occupied Europe during World War II. Initially focused on helping Belgians reach Britain, Deppé soon expanded his efforts to include British soldiers. His intimate knowledge of escape routes, including one through Bayonne, proved invaluable.
However, in August 1941, Deppé's efforts came to a halt when he and a group of escapees were arrested as they departed Brussels by train. Their capture followed a betrayal by a Belgian officer, previously handed back to the Germans.
This book stands as a poignant reminder of the bravery and sacrifice involved in the Comet Line’s operations.
