£2,800
A Victorian peddlers (pedlar) peg doll, mid to late 19th century, modelled as a lady in floral dress with a miniature needlework basket, painted face, hands and legs, 17cm high
The bonnet is removable. The painted hair beneath is solid black and may be later painted. No evidence of repair to the neck. The shoulders show a degree of articulation, as does the right elbow. The left elbow joint appears to be detached with the lower arm held in place by the sleeve cuff. The hands are modelled as stylised diamond shapes without digits. Both hips and knees show a degree of articulation. The painting to the face, hands, lower legs and shoes appears to be original, showing wear commensurate with age and play. The clothing appears to be original, and shows dirt, wear, staining and fading commensurate with age and play. The hat shows a broken bead, and is possibly missing further beads. The basket appears to be original to the doll, but some of the contents is loose and may be associated. The wire handle is somewhat distorted.
