Japanese Army officer's shin-gunto and metal scabbard, grip covered with laced leather sleeve, brown and blue tassels attached to pommel, replacement peg, some cracking to ray skin, minor chip to blade, some paint loss to scabbard, generally very fine.
Sold with original certificate dated 8 Apr 1947 authorising Capt W.A. Hambrey R. Sigs to retain one Japanese sword. With copied certificate from Military Antiques, Liverpool (Bill Tagg) stating the blade has been shortened to 67cm to comply with wartime regulations, tang signed Suke Sada (7 smiths used these 2 kanji) and thought to be made between 1661 and 1673 in Settsu.
