EXTRAORDINARY 1d PINK ENVELOPE ORIGINATING IN SINGAPORE; Remarkable and fine (minor flap fault) 1d Pink env. to Swanage endorsed 'From Sergeant G Mitchell/Royal Marines Lt Infantry......Singapore 19th October/57' with commanding officers endorsement below. Cancelled on arrival with London numeral obliterator with Swanage arc cds also on front. Rear with London and Wareham d.s. Exceptional use of the 1d Pink envelope, more so from the Far East and the only example originating in Singapore recorded by us. Important exhibition item. Note: Two battalions of Royal Marines on the Imperdor (where this was written) and Imperatrice were in transit in Singapore en route to Canton during the 2nd Opium War.
