Basutoland 1934 OHMS cover to England with OFFICIAL ½d (x2) and 1d
Official. 1934 (1 MAY) OHMS cover addressed to Sir Godfrey Lagden KCMG, England, franked at 2d rate by 1934 ?OFFICIAL? opt ½d emerald (x2) and 1d scarlet (lower marginal, exceptionally showing large part imprint), tied by individual strikes of Maseru despatch cds, with dated red oval ?RESIDENT COMMISSIONER'S OFFICE / MASERU, BASUTOLAND? h/s at lower left. Insignificant cover imperfections (including vertical fold), still a magnificent cover of the highest rarity, arguably the most desirable and important of the few covers from this issue still in existence. Ex King Carol of Romania, with RPS cert (1977). Illustrated on page 23 of the exhaustive 1996 monograph "The Rare Basutoland Officials" by Barry P. Fletcher, which records just 14 used examples of each of these two values, the 1d with imprint being unique.
