* In 1829, Cox and his family stayed at Gravesend not far from Mrs Cox's sister in the same street. Cox exhibited views of Shakespeare's Cliff at the Old Water Colour Society in 1830 and 1833, nos. 187 and 399. Another watercolour of this subject is in the British Museum and a variant was offered at Christies London (September 2nd 2008, lot 427). *CR The paper discoloured, time-stained; colour generally good.
