Candice has participated in a number of group shows. Her work has consistently been sold into both private and corporate collections including Spier, Nando’s, RMB and First Rand. She was selected to be on the emerging painters show at TAF 2017 curated by Jessica Webster. Candice was a top 30 finalist for the SATAXI art competition in 2017. Candice won the Multi & New Media Category Award of the Thami Mnyele Fine Arts Awards 2018 as well as a recipient of Lizamore and Associates Mentorship award for 2019. She was also selected by RMB as one of ten artists to participate in the 2018 RMB Winex event. She is a mother of three and works full time as an artist.
Candice paints on steel, copper and pewter, metal substances that are strong and industrial. Her composition often references historical images of peopled city streets and industria of early 20th century Johannesburg. The diminutive figuration in shades of copper and blue – outlined in emerald and mint green- reflects the viewer. Her images invoke nostalgia, and the passage of time. The reflective surface paradoxically conjures the people as animated, complex and vividly present to the current moment. Against the background of mechanical reproduction, her work poses a subtle conception of hope in the resilience of humanity. As the artist asks “if all materiality is transient, what is transcendent through the generations?”
