WWII Second World War - a scarce original WW2 'Chindits' special forces cloth uniform patch. Embroidered yellow on black, depicting the Chindits emblem. Features the original pins to reverse. From the collection of Pte J. Chidzey 5679473, serving overseas towards the end of the war in 1945. Supplied with his identification dog tags, an original airgraph postcard from Chidzey, and a 24th May 1945 Army Welfare Service of Somerset letter inviting members of his family to view a 'special message' Chidzey has made during a 'Calling Blighty' film to be shown at Locking Camp, May 1945. Unique collection. Patch measures approx; 6.5cm diameter.

The Chindits were the largest of all the allied special forces of the 2nd World War. Formed and lead by Major-General Orde Wingate DSO, they fought behind enemy lines in Northern Burma during 1943 and 1944 in the War against Japan. They were unconventional due to their total reliance on airdrops for their supplies and complete dependence on wireless for communications.
