Naval - HMS Victory partially printed document with ms insertions on a single leaf of vellum being a naval commission for Lt Charles Wilson Ross to serve as Lieutenant on HMS Victory. Dated October 3rd, 1829. An attractive document signed by Sir George Cockburn - famous for burning Washington in the American War of 1812, and for commanding HMS Northumberland when he took Napoleon to exile in St Helena - where Cockburn also became Governor of the island. Also signed by Viscount Castlereagh. The document also bears an attractive example of the embossed seal of the Admiralty. Ms text slightly faded but clearly legible throughout.
