Netherlands, Overjissel silver Ducaton 'Silver Rider’ (1659-1680), shipwreck coin (Dav 4945). Obverse: armoured knight on horseback, holding a sword, riding right, city arms below. Reverse: crowned arms of the Dutch Republic with lion supporters. Grade: VF Details, Saltwater Damage, certified as having been salvaged from the Merestein (# 2915843-002). Comes with a printed certificate from Thomas Numismatics.

The Merestein was a Dutch East India Company (VOC) vessel which sunk in Saldanha Bay, off the coast of South Africa, in April 1702. The wreck, containing thousands of Dutch silver coins, was found and salvaged in the 1970s.
