Star Lot: A very large original 'John Wilson Carmichael' mid 19th century oil on canvas painting. Features a maritime stormy seascape with sailing boats along an English coastline. Rendered in very fine detailed brushstrokes with dramatic sky. Initialled J.W.C bottom left and dated 1859. Housed in a heavy moulded gilt frame with acanthus leaves. Canvas stamped 'G. Rowney & Co.' to verso.
