German WWI Prussian Artillery Pickelhaube helmet, fitted with metal front plate depicting the Prussian coat of arms, missing its cockades and one chinstrap. Stamped inside [F.A. R45], [L. M.K. 45], [1900], this is for the Lauenburgische Field Artillery Regiment No.45. When war broke out in 1914, it was subordinated to the 18th division, to which it also belonged in the peace time structure. Thus the regiment was part of the 18th field artillery brigade of the IX. Army Corps, on mobilisation the IX Corps was assigned to the 1st Army on the right wing of the forces prepared for the Schlieffen Plan offensive of August 1914 on the Western Front. It participated in the Battle of Liege and Mons,. Later it saw action on Flanders and in 1918 the German Spring Offensive.
