POST-WWII SERVICE SUSPENDED MAIL: Group of covers/PPCs from 1945-1997, all ex GB to a variety of destinations (majority to Iraq/Kuwait). Inc. 17 Feb. 1949 Notice from the Postmaster-General advising that "registered letters, printed and commercial papers, samples and small packets may now be accepted for transmission to those places in Palestine to which the service has been extended"; 16 Feb. 1951 env. ex Sheffield to Israel with ms "NO SERVICE TO" at bottom left; 1990s (poor machine cancel) propaganda PPC to Iraq ex Birmingham with label over address reading "RETURN TO SENDER/INSUFFICIENTLY ADDRESSED", 2nd line crossed out and replaced with ms "NO SERVICE" in pencil; 1990 Post Office Notice advising of the limited resumption of the postal service to Iraq & Kuwait on 17 Sept.; 1992/5 envs. to Bosnia-Herzegovina returned with labels over address window advising "Due to the situation in the former Yugoslav/Republic we are unable to find any route/for mail to the State of Bosnia-Herzegovina [...]" or "THERE IS NO SERVICE TO/BOSNIA-HERZEGOVINA DUE/TO THE CURRENT/SITUATION [...]"; plus other examples inc. mail to Burundi & Rwanda during the 1995 Civil War.
