A Safavid Tinned Copper Kashkul Beggar's Bowl, 17th Century.
The elongated boat-like form is flanked by fierce dragon-head handles with finely incised detailing. The surface is densely adorned with engraved arabesques, a band of scrolling vine motifs, and a lively frieze of spotted deer and gazelles roaming among stylised foliage. A prominent band of thuluth script in Arabic encircles the upper body of the vessel. The inscription reads:
"O Allah, send blessings upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, the pure, the immaculate, the infallible, the wronged. O Allah, protect this vessel and whoever drinks from it from all harm, calamity, and the evil of enemies."
