In 1881, as a young man of twenty, George Dennis Day rode a Penny Farthing
bicycle twelve miles from St Ives in Huntingdonshire to Cambridge, where he
represented Cambridge in the Oxford and Cambridge Inter University Bicycle
Races. He won the 2-mile race and then rode home again!
