** EARLY ACCOUNT OF A REVEREND IN ADELAIDE; 5 June 1838 EL (minor stains on rear; plus an additional letter in the same hand, probably enclosed and dated Feb. 1838) to London with double-circular undated fair strike of the "POST OFFICE/ADELAIDE" [Crown & Lion] and framed "INDIA LETTER/LIVERPOOL" h.s. on front and rated '1/3'(d) with a London. Extensive content by Rev. Thomas Stow (1801-62) In my letter.....three months since I stated the dangers of Table Bay.For two or three days ....we were in imminent peril. Our ship had so drifted that during the last night her keel was within two feet of the rocks.....the colony proceeds with astonishing strides.....the building of the chapel cost me more than the £45 for which I sold the tent......Fascinating and very early insight into a colonialist in Adelaide.
