R.M.S. TITANIC: The following archive is sold via direct descent from the family of William Major a fireman on Titanic who survived the disaster in lifeboat 13. He returned to the sea after the sinking and was still working at sea in the 1920s. The collection comprises Mr Major's Elgin pocket watch, one of his white star buttons, hard wood fid and a studio portrait of him as a young man. Although the watch was his personal property there is no indication that it travelled on Titanic with him. NB A sailor's fid is a traditional tool used in seamanship for opening strands of rope.
