AN ARCHIVE OF DOCUMENTS RELATING TO LIEUTENANT COLONEL FRANCIS CHARLES TROLLOPE (1857-1913) AN EARLY PIONEER OF MILITARY BALLOONING AND AVIATION., The archive contains a small quantity of photographs (including an early example of a maned balloon) and numerous hand written and printed documents relating to ballooning, including papers on balloon equipment 1884, military ballooning by H.B. Jones LT.R.E., Military Ballooning by Lt. Baden Powell Scots Guards, there are also some small artefacts relating to ballooning, including a small numbered metal medal / tag from the Royal Engineers used in Bechunanaland, various small balloon fabric fragments and a selection of mounted chord samples. Other times of note include a confidential document dated 20/1/1896 on the subject of a successful expedition against the slave trader Chief Zarafi in Central Africa, there are also rank commission documents and various early programmes for early aviation exhibitions
