A collection of 12 red garnet set rings, including some set with marcasite, most stamped 'silver' or '925'

We are pleased to be offering this lot from the stock of family run firm Shipton and Co., who were based in Hastings White Rock area, and who were unfortunately forced to close their doors in 2014 after a section of the rock face above collapsed onto their shop, making the building unsafe.  A favourite gemstone of Victorian royalty, Hellenistic Greek rulers and the Anglo-Saxon elite.  The term 'garnet' comes from the name ‘gernet’, a 14th century Middle English word meaning dark red, further deriving from the Latin 'granatum' meaning 'pomegranate'. This connection was probably made due to the resemblance of garnet crystals to the seeds of a pomegranate.  Within the world of crystal healing the garnet has powerful properties and is believed to bring energy and boost relationships.
