A large Chinese green and russet jade ‘phoenix head’ carving, possibly Han dynasty or earlier, the surface weathered and calcified and with vacant holes for bronze or gold (?) fittings, 23 cm wide

The surface of the stone is heavily pitted with some calcification in areas. Natural inclusions and veining to the stone, otherwise in reasonable condition.
