EARLY CANADIAN FULL U.P.U.-MEMBERSHIP PERIOD - UNDERPAID 'PREFERENTIAL RATE' MAIL; 1876/78 covers (4) all ex England (Torquay, London, Newcastle on Tyne & Bishops Waltham) to mainland Canada; overpaid (for 2½d rate) but underweight Jan./Nov. 1876 pair with 4d Vermilion (pl.13) or 3x1d Reds with 2-line or 1-line red boxed "INSUFFICIENTLY/PREPAID" marks (Liverpool or London GB?) charged in m/s "d6" or "7d" converted to 12c (v. fine unrecorded - Hamilton? - h.s. "12") or 14c (m/s); plus 1877/8 pair with single 1d Reds and so charged "4[d]" and then "8[c]" (first with red boxed "INSUFFICIENTLY PREPAID" (Liverpool?). Also an Oct. 1897 Budget Letter Card from London to Hamilton with 1d Lilac and so with "T/L" hexagon and v, fine Hamilton h.s. "6" (late usage). Scarce lot.
