Fred "Snailman" Somerscales, an adzed oak coffee table, the rectangular top on octagonal baluster end supports, joined by a floor stretcher, intaglio carved snail to the stretcher, 60 x 31 cm.
Fred trained under Richard Collinson, an ecclesiastical cabinetmaker and established his own business in Keelby, North Lincolnshire in February 2000, he followed the tradition of the Yorkshire/Lincolnshire cabinet makers and carves a snail on his work, which has rarely appeared on the market.
