Henry VIII (1509-1547), Half Sovereign, third coinage, 1544-47, Tower, mintmark: pellet in annulet, Lombardic lettering both sides. King, bearded and crowned, seated facing on high backed throne, rose below, HENRIC 8 DG AGL FRANCIE Z HIB REX, rev. Crowned Royal Arms supported by lion to left and dragon to right, panel below, annulet on inner circle after rex, IHS AVT TRANSIENS PER MEDIVM ILLO IBAT, but Jesus passing through the midst of them went His way, 6.15gm. (S.2295; cf. Schneider 617/619; N.1827). Some weakness on right shoulder otherwise good very fine, unusually well struck example and rare as such - normally the type is struck on uneven flans which always gives rise to areas of weakness.
