Fees

An Air Force Medal (AFM) (GVIR Fid Def 2nd type) to a ‘Halton Brat’ in a group of seven, consisting of the AFM together with the 1939-1945, Africa (with North Africa 1942-43 clasp), Burma and Italy Stars and the Defence and War Medals. The AFM named to: 575640 Pilot II D Stokes RAF.
Duncan Stokes was born in Worksop, Notts in 1922. He was one of those selected for the 39th Entry of Halton apprentices at RAF Halton in 1939. The course was accelerated because of the outbreak of WW2 and the apprentices were posted to operational units after just one year rather than the rnormal three years. He qualified as a pilot and served in the Middle East and Far East during his wartime service. Following the end of WW2 he continued to serve as a pilot, with the short-lived grade of ‘Pilot 2’ (equivalent to Sergeant) and was awarded the AFM in 1950 (LG 2 January 1950 (16 in list)). He died in Sheffield on 07/12/2014.
With copy extract from LG confirming the award of the AFM and a note on the grade of ‘Pilot II’.
The campaign Stars appear to have been gilded; otherwise, Extremely Fine (EF).
