HANDSTRUCK "1/-" MARKS APPLIED ON CUNARD/ALLAN LINE STEAMERS INC. RARE "CANADIAN PKT." C.D.S.; 1862/5 envs. (4) all sent unpaid to GB and each having a very fine Handstruck "1/-" mark applied on board transatlantic ships; 24 July 1865 ex Admaston CW with "PAID [12½ Cents]" but missent via Boston (v. fine "BOSTON BR. PKT." cds on the front) with tall h.s. "1/-" thought to have been struck on the Cunard S.S. 'Africa' (rare thus ex Canada!), and the other 3 all with the smaller distinctive h.s. "1/-" marks of the Allan Line steamer 'North American' (1862 ex Georgina CW, 1865 ex Montreal, and 24 Aug. 1864 ex "COLLINGWOOD HARBOR" (large cds). The 1864 cover unusually has the h.s. "8" cancelled with a barred circle and also has a rare mainly fine "CANADIAN PKT" cds on the reverse. Scarce lot.
