Graham Bliss was born in the City of Westminster on the 5th of January 1947 at Charing Cross Hospital.
He had an early childhood memory of waking up one Christmas morning to find that his father had set up a railway track with an O gauge steam engine running around it. It was to be the start of a lifelong love of all things to do with railways and trains
After leaving the RAF in 1974, where he had become a qualified electronics engineer, Graham followed a variety of different career paths before eventually finding his dream employment with British Rail, subsequently Amey rail and finally retiring as a Senior Signals and Telecommunications Technician at Network Rail
From that first childhood encounter with model railways, Graham became an avid collector of all things train related, and, over the years, acquired an extensive collection of model trains, Dublo and O gauge and many associated accessories and Vintage toys, eventually, in recent years, finding the room in his house to build a comprehensive O gauge layout in his loft running Hornby, Lionel and modern O gauge trains, and using vintage Hornby buildings
When his children were young they were often taken along to schools and steam fairs such as Woodcote and Much Marcle, where they would help to run his ‘portable’ but extensive railway layouts. He was also well known at the Toy Fair in Reading where he always had tables full of Hornby Dublo and other vintage toys for sale.
Having spent a lifetime accumulating his collection, I am sure that he would be pleased to know that it was passing on to equally devoted enthusiasts, and fellow collectors and lovers of railways everywhere at the sale today.
