Large painted wood carving of a Pochard duck 62 h. cms x 83 length cms
The hand-painted duck was made by Bill Bazett, originally a teacher, who started working part-time at the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust at Slimbridge in the early 90s, where he created and carved large wooden birds, completing six in all. Each bird, all possibly carved from a renewable source of Russian Pine, took approximately 3 months of loving hard work, leaving sacks full of wood shavings and off cuts. The birds were displayed at Slimbridge, with an unnamed Canadian Goose even flying into the 'Polka Theatre for Children', in Wimbledon, London, where it took part in a production of ' Kingfisher Pond' in 1991. It was then bought by the theatre after raising the required sum of £400.00 and resided in the foyer there for some time.
