Buffier, a French Jesuit priest, was born in Warsaw, but spent most of his life in Paris. He was a philosopher, historian, philologist, and educator. In his writings, he rejected the deductive reasoning of the Cartesian method and instead promoted the use of common sense and concluded â??objects external to the human mind do indeed have their own separate existencesâ??.
