A rare 'James I' pewter flagon, unusually with touchmark and cast decoration, dated ‘1629’

Having a knopped bun lid, a prominent erect ribbed thumbpiece with scroll and floral cast decoration, the truncated cone drum with upper and lower fillet, and with wrigglework initials and date ‘A L 1629’  below the ovolo-moulded collar, similar shaped foot rim, the single-curve handle terminating with a ridge above a rounded terminal cast with a five-petal flower, makers mark ‘I? L’ within a beaded circle to handle, height 25.5cm

Literature: This flagon was included in the ‘Survey of James I Flagons' carried out by the pewter society in 1997 and listed as number 4
