PAIR OF 3d-RATE "M" COVERS TO MESSINA - WITH G.B. 2d BLUE + 1d RED OR 1d REDS STRIP OF THREE; 3 Apr./31 July 1858 pair of ELs from Malta (one with firm's blue oval cachet on the front) to Messina (both charged "1¼" on arrival), having GB 1d Reds Strip of Three or 2d Blue + 1d Red respectively, all tied (one by indentation) by mainly fine to very fine barred "M" cancels; both also with red oval-framed Malta "P." marks on the front and with Messina backstamps. The July cover also with two disinfection chisel-slits (clear of stamps). Good pair. (2 covers)
