** KELSO (SCOTLAND) - P.O.W.'s PAROLE CERTIFICATE SIGNED BY AGENT "JOHN SMITH"; 16 Mar. 1812 foolscap mainly printed Transport Office document (reinforced creases and one corner trimmed but not affecting text) setting out the rules for parole POWs in French and issued to "Mr. Martial Rochon, Surgeon Aide Major... POW at Kelso, Scotland" with signature of "John Smith AGENT of Prisoners of War on Parole, at Kelso" at the foot. Also signed by Rochon at left and endorsed by him at top; "I was taken Prisoner of War on 19 July 1808 and was not returned to France until 19 June 1814". Rare document.
