The case once belonging to Sir Algernon Francis Stanley (1874-1962) having a stitched brown leather and brass bounding case with oak lined interior. Label present to the interior for James Woodward and Sons. The top of the case inscribed Honble. A. F. Stanley. Case measures approx. 16cm x 55cm x 35cm.
Colonel Algernon Francis Stanley was born 8 January 1874 at Marylebone in London. He was the son of Frederick Arthur Stanley, 16th Earl of Derby and the Lady Constance Villiers. He was born on the 8th of January 1874,citing Birth Registration, Marylebone, London, England. He married the Lady Mary Cavendish Grosvenor, daughter of Hugh Lupus Grosvenor, 1st Duke of Westminster and the Hon. Katherine Caroline Cavendish, on the 18th of April 1918. At Clitheroe, Lancashire, England. He died on the 10th of February 1962 at the age of 88, citing Death, Sodbury, Gloucestershire, England.
