1736 Jernegan's Lottery silver medal by John Sigismund Tanner (Eimer 537). Obverse: Minerva stands amid military trophies, holding a palm front, 'BOTH HANDS FILLED FOR BRITAIN' above 'GEORGE REIGNING' below. Reverse: Queen Caroline waters a grove of young palm trees, 'GROWING ARTS ADORN EMPIRE' above with 'CAROLINE PROTECTING 1736' below. Goldsmith and banker Henry Jernegan sold tickets for a large silver cistern of his own making as a lottery prize with the sale of tickets going to the rebuilding of Westminster Bridge. Some 70,000 tickets were sold with some receiving a medal in return. Weight: 20.16g. Diameter: 39mm.
