In the 1960s-70s she studied the Japanese art of ikebana (flower arranging) and her early ceramics were designed for this use. Ruths work developed into ceramic sculpture in the late 1970-1980s. Her work was exhibited in the 1980s at the Hong Kong Museum of Art, Contemporary Hong Kong Art Biennial Exhibition, University of Hong Kong and Saegusa Gallery, Tokyo.
