Proceeds of this sale will be donated to The Royal Naval Benevolent Society For Officers, following the kind wishes of the vendors Mr Robert Murray-Smith and Mrs Linda Withrington - the Second World War (WWII) DSC group of five military medals awarded to Commander Arthur Ronald Murray-Smith, R.N., comprising George VI Distinguished Service Cross, type I, dated 1945 to reverse, 1939-45 Star, Atlantic Star with France and Germany clasp, Defence Medal and 1939-45 War Medal, all with ribbons; together with corresponding medal miniatures; two typed award letters; and other badges & medals including Russian Soviet 40th Anniversary of Patriotic War Medal 1945-85 (a lot). Footnote - Commander Murray-Smith served on H.M.S. Bellona, a Dido class cruiser which participated in the D-Day landings (6 June 1944) and several Russian Arctic convoys. Murray-Smith's award of the DSC was recorded in The London Gazette published on 7th December 1945. PLEASE NOTE - the vendors of this lot have now applied for the Arctic Star Medal, to which Commander Murray-Smith was entitled for his actions with the Arctic convoys during the Second World War, and this medal will be forwarded to the successful buyer of this lot on its arrival.
