An impressive live steam coal fired 1.5" scale Allchin Traction Engine 'Royal Chester'. Built by an engineer Mr. Robert Foster of Hartfield East Sussex. The model was awarded a 'Certificate of Merit' (Bronze Medal) at the Alexandra Palace 61st Model Engineer Modelling Exhibition, we think for 1992 as its undated. The engine itself measures 63cm in length, height to the top of chimney 43cm, width across the rear wheels is 30cm. Its finished maroon with red and black lined brass bands, bright red wheels, copper capped chimney, wooden tool box to one side, towing wire to nearside rear wheel, 'NU 7483' front and rear. Designed to be fully functioning with all parts intact. VGC. The towing wire needs to be loosened and rewound.
The model comes with its Certificate of Merit, a small framed information/data board and a small frame of scale traction engine tools (some rusting overall). Plus a manual of building instructions, 'Building The Allchin'.

'Royal Chester'. Traction Engine No3251 built by 'William Allchin Ltd. Of Northampton. Was a general purpose engine of 7NHP. She was the last engine to be built by this Company in 1925 and it was intended she be shown new at the 'Royal Chester' show in that year.
Although she never bore the nameplates 'Royal Chester' she had been tentatively christened that name. It seemed appropriate that the model should bear this name.
The model took approximately 2,500 hours to build and there are 5,080 parts.
Sold as a collectors item only, not to be run until professionally tested and certified. A fine item. £3500-4000
