† Edith Mary Lawrence (British 1890-1973), Swiss Mountain Scene and An Alpine Village, a pair, both signed 'Edith Lawrence' (lower right), watercolour, each image 34 x 50 cm, framed and glazed, 63.5 x 79 cm (2) Qty: (2) Lawrence met the artist Claude Flight in 1922 and they became lifelong companions, setting up a studio together in 1927 off Baker Street from where they ran an interior decoration business and produced murals, textiles and decorative household objects. She exhibited her work on a regular basis throughout the 1930s at both the Ward and Redfern galleries, and also with the Society of Women Artists, the National Portrait Society and with the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours throughout her career. A joint exhibition of Lawrence and Flight's work was held at the Embroiderer's Guild in 1937 and a career retrospective of Lawrence's work was held at the University of Hull in the summer of 1973 and a memorial exhibition in her honour was held at the Parkin Gallery in London later that year.
