A JAPANESE MEIJI/TAISHO VERMILLION LACQUER DOCUMENT BOX (BUNKO), EARLY 20TH CENTURY. With superb peony design in rich takamaki-e and mother-of-pearl on the lid that extends over the sides and ends. Supplied in original lacquered wood box with inscription. 24.5cm x 17cm x 10cm.
A 1.5cm crack to the corner rim of the box. Some surface wear to note and minor rubbing where the cover slides onto the box. The decoration itself in nice condition. A small piece of mother of pearl belonging to one leaf has come off.
