An early 18th century ruby glass decanter, etched with exotic birds, flowers and foliage. Surmounted by original gilded copper stopper, and the later addition of a lamp fixing. Drilled. Overall height 17.25cm. Note: A very similar piece can be found in the collection of The Corning Museum of Glass, New York. See page 7 of the 2011 Annual Report for catalogue description ('Bottle in gold ruby glass, mold-blown, cold-worked, cut, engraved. Glass: Potsdam or Southern Germany, about 1700; engraving attributed to a master in Nuremberg, Germany. Height 16.5cm') and illustration. There is a drill hole near the base of one side and a later applied light-fitting, remains of gilt to etched decoration. Images of affected areas online.
