The Morris Minor was introduced at the Earls Court Motor Show, on 20 September 1948. Designed under the leadership of Alec Issigonis, more than 1.3 million were manufactured between 1948 and 1972 in three series. Initially available as a two-door saloon and convertible, the range was expanded to include a four-door saloon in 1950, a wood-framed estate, the Traveller, from Oct.1953 and panel van and pick-up truck variants from May 1953. The car updated in 1956 when the engine was increased in capacity to 948 cc. The two-piece split windscreen was replaced with a one piece one and the rear window was enlarged. In 1961 the semaphore-style trafficators were replaced by the flashing direction indicators, these were US-style red at the rear, using the same bulb filament as the brake lamp, and white at the front.
The genuine convertible example offered here is described by the vendor as a fabulous car to drive with no known faults. It was fully restored during 2016 and has a MOT until May 2018 with no advisories. There are many receipts for work and parts, including a brand new mohair hood. The car features some subtle period upgrades to increase performance, handling and braking.
