A NAVAL CUTLASS WITH UNUSUALLY HEAVY BLADE, POSSIBLY LATE 18TH CENTURY. A late 18th century type Naval cutlass with a broad 60cm blade with curved pointed end and deep fuller, the blade 39mm wide and approximately 8mm across the back. With a wire bound shagreen grip with gilt lion's head pommel and back strap, with straight cross piece and langets, 84cm overall. *CR Some pitting to the steel and wear to grip, an unusual pattern, possibly a marriage of parts or private purchase sword.
