Pair of Vintage Roberts Radios: Model RIC2 and Model R700
This lot features a pair of vintage Roberts radios, including the Model RIC2 and the Transistor Model R700.
The first radio, Model RIC2, has a distinct red body with wood paneling on the sides, and a handle on top. The front panel includes several control knobs, a medium-sized volume control dial in the centre, a smaller tone dial, and a large tuning dial on the right proudly bearing the Roberts logo. It also features a frequency display showing tuning options for LW (long wave), MW (medium wave) alongside a switch that controls these bands. This model is identified by a label emphasizing the importance of quoting the model and serial numbers (92812) for inquiries. The label indicates its production by the Roberts Radio Co. Ltd.
The second radio, the Transistor Model R700, showcased in a more reserved dark casing with wood-panelled sides, is larger in size compared to the RIC2. The control panel at the top surface includes volume and tuning knobs, as well as bass and treble adjustment knobs centrally placed. The waveband switches control FM, MW, and LW bands displayed prominently on the frequency scale. This radio also has a jack for external connections, likely for headphones or an additional speaker. The knobs have a slight fault.
Both radios are emblematic of Roberts Radio's craftsmanship during the mid-20th century, offering a cherished glimpse into the audio equipment of the period.
