A 19th century Chinese "Canton" fan, with mock filigree, enamelled and parcel-gilt bronze guards with a dragon motif and fretted and stained ivory, mother of pearl, tortoiseshell, sandalwood and sticks. The paper leaf is painted recto and verso in lacquer colours with figures in terraced pavilions with applied ivory face details. Housed in a shaped and fitted black lacquer case painted with oriental garden scenes.
