R.M.S. TITANIC:
An exceptional oak chessboard made from Titanic wreck wood by William Parker, a Nova Scotian carpenter aboard the Halifax cable ship Minia who participated in the recovery of Titanic victims. Parker collected several pieces of floating Titanic debris to keep as mementoes of the historic disaster and crafted several of them into usable objects including this chessboard. The provenance of this piece is via descent from Parker himself, having been acquired by the present vendor from his daughters Mabel and Doris in the early 80s. It is important to note that several examples of Mr Parker's work are in the collection of The Maritime Museum of the Atlantic in Nova Scotia illustrating the importance of these items. 26ins x 26ins.
