A scarce late 19th century French 8mm Giffard CO2 gas rifle, number 1663, 41½" overall, barrel 25", gold inlaid "ST.ETIENNE" in panel (a few small gaps), with adjustable rear sight and bolt operated loading tap, the detachable gas cylinder below the barrel numbered 40613, the frame engraved with floral panels and scrolls, the walnut butt having chequered wrist. GC, dark patina to metalwork (the fore sight replaced). £500-600
